Upavishtha Konasana - Wide Legged Seated Forward Bend
oo-pah-VEESH-tah cone-AHS-ah-nah.
Upavistha = seated.
Kona = angle.
Asana = steady pose.
This posture can be performed in a number of ways, it can be both an intense pose or a nurturing depending upon the nature of the practise. It will release tension through the hips, lower back and inner thighs.
How to Perform Upavishta Konasana.
Sit comfortably and extend your legs out to the side, do not overstretch. Allow your upper body to relax forward.
Allow your body to relax in the pose to gently release tension. Never force your body.
If you find this posture too intense you can place a pillow or bolster in front of you to relax forward onto, or try rolled up towels under the backs of your knees if you find it uncomfortable to sit with the legs extended, one more option is to try this hip with the hips elevated on a folded towel or you can try any combination of adaptations.
